Cleaning and Polishing Tartar

Tartar cleaning is an application that should be carried out regularly for the health of the gums. Tartar forms on the teeth as a result of inadequate oral hygiene. The biggest factor in the formation of this tartar, called calculus, is bacterial plaque.

Brushing your teeth is very important for dental care. However, due to inadequate brushing, the food we eat and drink remains on our teeth, leading to bacterial plaque. Tartar can also cause major problems over time. Gum disease and recession are among the conditions caused by tartar. Tartar can also cause tooth decay. For this reason, tartar cleaning is important. At Milim Dental Hospital, tartar is cleaned without damaging the dental tissue using special hand tools such as ultrasound and curettes.

Dental Fillings

There are basically two types of fillings. Traditional silver amalgam fillings and white colored composite fillings. Milim Dental Hospital does not use silver-colored amalgam fillings. If necessary, silver-colored amalgam fillings are often replaced by white-colored composite fillings.

Amalgam Composite Fillings with Advantages and Disadvantages

After the carious layer in the tooth has been removed, the carious cavity formed can be filled with two types of filling materials.

1. Traditional silver amalgam fillings
2. Composite fillings

• Amalgam filling material contains mercury and other metal alloys. There are currently no definitive studies by the ADA (American Dental Association) on mercury in amalgam against hazards, but mercury is a toxic substance in itself.
• Sometimes sensitivity to heat and cold can occur after the amalgam fillings have been in place for a while. Amalgam fillings require more preparation of the tooth structure and more tissue has to be removed.
• Amalgam fillings do not harden immediately, so it is recommended not to chew on the chewed tooth for a few hours after filling.

Why Choose Composite Filling Material?

• Composite filling material consists of mercury-free resin and glass particles.
• Composite fillings look natural and have the same color as the teeth. The shades of composite fillings can be aesthetically matched to the shades of natural teeth.
• The composite filling material hardens quickly and the teeth can be used immediately after the filling process has been completed.
• In order for the composite filling material to be applied, less tooth tissue is removed from the tooth and the filling can be applied with less preparation.
