What Are Zygomatic Implants?

12 March Thu, 2026

Zygomatic implants are advanced dental implants used mainly for patients with severe upper jaw bone loss. Unlike conventional implants that rely on the remaining maxillary bone, zygomatic implants are anchored in the zygoma (cheekbone), which can provide support when the upper jaw is too atrophic for standard implant placement. Current reviews describe them as a valuable graftless or graft-reducing option in the rehabilitation of the severely atrophic maxilla, especially when traditional implant placement would otherwise require major sinus grafting or other complex augmentation procedures. At MilimInternational, Dr. Ali Direnç Ulaşan approaches zygomatic implants as a specialist-level solution, not a routine implant treatment. The aim is not only to place implants, but to design a stable, functional, and hygienic fixed restoration for patients who may have been told they have “no bone” for conventional implants. In the right case, zygomatic implants can become a major turning point in oral rehabilitation. (PMC)
